Following a highly successful three years with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra as their first Conducting Fellow and then Assistant conductor, Alpesh Chauhan has been invited to return as guest conductor for two main season concerts in 2016/17.
As announced on 12 May, Alpesh Chauhan will be joined in November by fellow Hazard Chase artist Benjamin Grosvenor for a performance of Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1, framed by Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5. The rapport that Alpesh has built with the CBSO has seen him conduct the UK premiere of Golijov’s Azul with the soloist Eduardo Vassallo, principal cellist of the CBSO, and Shostakovich’s powerful Symphony No. 15 to critical acclaim. The next season will bring fresh challenges as he leads the CBSO in Bruckner’s majestic Symphony No. 3 alongside Strauss’ Four Last Songs and Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel overture on 6th October.
