Now in his third year as Artistic Director, Matthew Halls opens the 2016 Oregon Bach Festival with one of Bach’s most celebrated works, the Mass in B Minor, performed for the first time in the festival’s history on period instruments. This season sees Halls conduct works from Bach, Haydn, Schubert and Mendelssohn, also adding to the list of OBF commissions with the world premiere of Sir James MacMillan’s A European Requiem.
The Berwick Academy for Historically Informed Performance, launched under Matthew’s leadership in 2015, forms an integral part of the 2016 festival with performances including Schubert’s Symphony No. 3. Halls closes the festival with Brahms Symphony No. 3 and his great choral work, “A German Requiem”.
