As the holiday makers flock to the historic cities and beautiful beaches our artists also travel to Italy for a summer of concerts.
In July Wolfram Christ heads to Florence, the capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, to lead the orchestra of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in the beautiful setting of the Courtyard Palazzo Pitti with a programme of Mozart. Meanwhile Alpesh Chauhan tours the country with the orchestra of Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini. In a programme to include Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and Rossini’s Barber of Seville, the orchestra perform in towns from Pesaro to the ancient town of Veleia.
Violinist Henning Kraggerud will also be in Tuscany for Incontri in Terra de Siena festival which takes place this August, where he will give performances with pianist Jeremy Menuhin, guitarist Pepe Romero and cellist / festival Artistic Director, Antonio Lysy.
First prize winner of the Géza Anda Piano Competition 2015, Andrew Tyson performs in Cervo for the 53rd International Chamber Music Festival this summer. Held during July and August every year, the festival presents outdoor concerts in the main square- Piazza dei Corallini – each evening playing host to musicians from around the world. On 23 July Andrew presents a programme inspired by the Mediterranean including Scarlatti’s Three Sonatas, Albéniz’s Iberia Book 1, and Liszt’s Rhapsodie espagnole.
Hazard Chase singers are also heading to Italy as Soprano Katherine Watson appeared with La Risonanza for their tour of Handel’s Messiah. In addition to performances in Halle, Paris and Thiérarche, Katherine also sang at the beautiful Tempio Valdese in Milan. To end the summer season, James Gilchrist and Ashley Riches perform Bach’s St Matthew Passion in Pisa with the Monteverdi Choir, concluding a 6-month tour which has taken them across the concert halls of Europe.
