We are delighted that Masaaki Suzuki and Bach Collegium Japan’s recording of Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor has been announced as Recording of the Month by the BBC Music Magazine.
Released in November 2016, the disc follows their first recording of Mozart – the Requiem – released in 2015, and builds on Suzuki’s continuing wish to explore the tradition and line of Christian music.
In her article for the BBC, Berta Joncus applauds the way in which Suzuki “seeks transparency of texture, timbre and colour… stripping the score right back, Suzuki makes musicianship dominate. He taps into the subtle arts of his fellow performers, especially Carolyn Sampson, to create a benchmark performance.”
Joining Masaaki Suzuki and Bach Collegium Japan in this “stunning Mozart Mass” are singers Carolyn Sampson, Olivia Vermeulen, Makoto Sakurada and Christian Immler. Sampson concludes the disc with a “dazzling account” of Exsultate, jubilate.
