After conducting the premiere of Sir James MacMillan’s A European Requiem at the 2016 Oregon Bach Festival (a festival commission), Matthew Halls returns to the renowned Scottish composer this week for his Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra debut. Presenting MacMillan’s Fourth Symphony, the work is set alongside Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 – the “Scottish” – and Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto with Simone Porter as soloist.
