Simon Bailey takes on the role of John the Baptist (Jochanaan) for the first time in Richard Strauss’ one act opera.  Premiered in Dresden in 1905, SALOME was originally banned in the UK so the UK premiere at Covent Garden was not until 1910 (Thomas Beecham).  Staatstheater Stuggart revive Kirill Serebrennikov’s production, to be conducted by Lothar Koenigs.  Cast also includes Simone Schneider (Salome), Katarina Karnéus (Herodias) and Gerhard Siegel (Herodes).    Further engagements for Simon this year include Adam Ochsenschwanz in Krenek’s Schwergewicht for Oper Frankfurt and Shaklovity Khovanshchina and Shishkov From the House of the Dead for Welsh National Opera.

Prremiere on 26th March, with further performances on 30th March, 4, 13, 17, 22 and 28 April 2017
