Many Happy Returns to Olli Mustonen who celebrates his 50th birthday this week. Steven Isserlis leads the birthday wishes from friends and colleagues in this wonderful article.
A distinguished artist whom we are proud to represent, Olli has for many years brought his fascinating musical insight to the concert stage. Combining his conducting, composing and piano-playing activities in an equal balance, his birthday year has so far included concerts with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the completion of Olli’s recording of all the Prokofiev Piano Concertos with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, a performance of his own piano quintet at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and a conducting engagement at the Opera Apriori International Festival in Moscow – hear more about that here.
Still to come are two recitals at the Ruhr Piano Festival comprising the complete Prokofiev Piano Sonatas, a composer residency at the Davos Festival in Switzerland, a conducting engagement with the Helsinki Philharmonic and a concerto appearance at Tonhalle Zurich with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Take a look at Olli conducting the ACO in a rehearsal of his own Sonata for Cello & Orchestra for its 2015 premiere in Canberra.
