Mark le Brocq joins Welsh National Opera, as their recent production of André Tchaikowsky’s Merchant of Venice transfers to the Royal Opera House, in a London premiere of the rediscovered work. A production by British director Keith Warner, Mark works with him for the second time this season, following his performance in Warner’s Doktor Faust at Semperoper Dresden. Under the baton of Lionel Friend, Mark sings the role of Bassanio, alongside Lester Lynch as Shylock, Martin Wölfel as Antonio and Miklós Sebestyén as the Duke of Venice. The production marks the fourth year of Welsh National Opera’s London residency in a collaboration with the Royal Opera House. Mark performed in the production as Bassanio for its opening run at Wales Millennium Centre earlier this season, followed by a tour throughout October – November 2016.
Next season Mark returns to WNO to sing Vasily Golitsyn Khovanshchina and Filka Morozov From the House of the Dead. He will also make his house debut at the Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg, in a double bill of Mahagonny Songspiel and The Seven Deadly Sins.
