Giselle Allen joins Opera North for their current autumn season, ‘Little Greats’. The series explores a variety of one act operas set in a mixture of double bills, ranging from well-known operas to the rarely performed. Giselle makes her role debut as both Santuzza in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, and Míla Valková in Janáček’s Osud. Giselle returns to Opera North following her recent performance as Giorgietta Il Tabarro last season, and her performances in the company’s critically acclaimed Ring Cycle, which won the Opera and Music Theatre category at the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards earlier this year.
Joining Giselle in the cast of Cavalleria Rusticana, Katie Bray will sing Lola, Jonathan Stoughton, Turiddù and Phillip Rhodes will sing Alfio, whilst the cast of Osud includes John Graham-Hall (Živný) Rosalind Plowright (Míla’s Mother) and Peter Auty (Dr Suda).
The full ‘Little Greats’ series will also include Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges, Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury, and Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti. Giselle will open Cavalleria Rusticana on 27th September alongside Trial by Jury, and Osud on 11th October alongside Trouble in Tahiti. Both productions will be performed in a double bill together on 14th October.
