Mezzo-soprano Marta Fontanals-Simmons sings the London première of Alasdair Nicolson’s Shadows on the Wall (Five Hauntings) at the Barbican Hall on November 7th 2017, joined by conductor Ben Gernon and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Nicolson’s song-cycle was premièred at the St. Magnus International Festival in 2013 and is described as ’character studies of ghostly apparitions’. In this concert it will be performed alongside Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 “Winter Daydreams”.

Marta’s engagements later this season include Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius with Southampton Philharmonic Choir, Kurt Weill’s Street Scene as Jennie Hildebrand with Teatro Real Madrid, and a return to Garsington Opera as 2nd Lady in Die Zauberflöte.
