The Finnish conductor Ville Matvejeff, currently Chief Conductor of Jyväskylä Sinfonia and Artistic Director of Turku Music Festival, has been appointed Artistic Director of Savonlinna Opera Festival with effect from September 1st 2019 .

Over the last few years, Matvejeff has been building up a diverse and wide-ranging portfolio of opera repertoire. This season started with concert performances of Parsifal at the Turku Music Festival and a run of Hansel and Gretel at Malmö Opera, whilst at the Croatian National Theatre Ivan Zajc, where he holds the post of Principal Guest Conductor and Music Advisor, he conducts productions including La Bohème, Falstaff, and Otello.

Renowned for its beautiful and unique setting at Olavinlinna Castle, the Savonlinna Opera Festival has been a destination for opera lovers from around the world for over 50 years.
