Steffens returns to Dresden to conduct two sold out concerts with the Dresden Philharmonie on January 26th and 27th at the Kulturpalast in Dresden. There he performs Debussy’s La Mer and Ravi Shankar’s Concerto for Sitar and Orchestra No. 2, in which he will be joined by Ravi’s daughter, Anoushka Shankar.

Combining a rich base of traditional Indian forms with Western classical convention, presenting 29 ragas in four movements each in a different tempo and spirit, Ravi Shankar’s concerto was commissioned in 1981 by the New York Philharmonic and is dedicated to his collaborator Zubin Mehta.
