Steffens is in Scotland to make his debut with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra with performances in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Under his baton, the orchestra will perform Britten’s American Overture, Elgar’s Symphony No.1 and Schumann’s Cello Concerto with Andrei Ioniță at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on February 9th and the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow on February 10th.
Ahead of these performances, Steffens will take part in ‘Under the Skin of Elgar’ at the Royal Concert Hall’s new auditorium in Glasgow on February 7th. He will join RSNO’s principal Tuba, John Whitener, who will present a concert that promises to dive deep beneath the notes of Elgar’s first symphony using live musical examples to unpick the layers that makes this symphony more than just a very British masterpiece.
