On Friday 23rd February, Portuguese conductor Pedro Neves will conduct Orquestra Gulbenkian in a programme of new works by Portuguese and Brazilian composers. Other artists include percussionists Rui Sul Gomes and Nuno Aroso, and violinist Luíz Filíp.

The orchestra will perform the world premiere of Luís Antunes Pena’s Percussion Concerto Off-balance, and the Portuguese premieres of Celso Loureiro Chaves’ violin concerto Museu das Coisas Inúteis and John Luther Adams’ Become Ocean. The performance will take place at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon, and will be repeated the following evening at the Teatro Joaquim Benite, Almada.

Neves is accomplished in contemporary repertoire, regularly working with Sond’arte Electric Ensemble and Remix, the resident new music ensemble of the Casa da Música. Upcoming highlights this season include concerts with the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa and the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra.
