Peter Hoare joins the cast for the world premiere of new work by George Benjamin and librettist Martin Crimp, Lessons in Love and Violence, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Following the success of their first opera Written on Skin, British director Katie Mitchell, Benjamin and Crimp join forces again, for the eagerly anticipated new work. A co-commission between Dutch National Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Opéra de Lyon, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, and Teatro Real, Madrid, the production will star Stéphane Degout (King), Barbara Hannigan (Isabel) and Gyula Orendt (Gaveston), with Peter singing the role of Mortimer.
Lessons in Love and Violence opens on Thursday 10th May at Covent Garden, running until 26th May. Following performances in London, the production then transfers to De Nationale Opera, Amsterdam, opening on June 25th.
