Chofu International Music Festival returns for its sixth year and will be held between June 24th and July 1st. The themes for this year, devised by Artistic Director Masato Suzuki, are ‘Bach’s Performance’, ‘Collaboration in Art’ and ‘Succession to the next generation’.
During the week, there are performances from Masaaki Suzuki and soprano Joanne Lunn. Joanne performs her first solo recital in Japan at the Chofu City Cultural Centre on June 29th accompanied by Masato Suzuki on piano. The recital includes works from Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms and Henry Bishop. Masaaki Suzuki conducts the Chofu Festival Orchestra performing Bach’s Orchestra Suite No. 3 in D Major, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella suite and Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 in C minor on June 30th at Chofu City Green Hall.
The festival concludes on July 1st with a concert at Chofu City Green Hall from the Bach Collegium Japan conducted by Masato Suzuki. He will be joined by sopranos Joanne Lunn, Mari Moriya and Saki Nakae, tenor Makoto Sakuruda and bass Toru Kaku for a performance of Mozart’s ‘Der Schauspieldirektor’ and ‘Bastien und Bastienne’.
