Following his performance as Mortimer in Katie Mitchell’s critically-acclaimed premiere of George Benjamin’s “Lessons in Love and Violence” at Covent Garden in 2018, Peter Hoare returns to the role this spring as the original production debuts on the continent.

Benjamin’s opera, with a libretto by Martin Crimp, will receive its German premiere at the Staatsoper Hamburg this Sunday (7th April) and run for four performances, before transferring to the Opéra de Lyon for seven performances between 14th and 26th May.

Reviews from the Royal Opera 2018 production:

“Peter Hoare brings a fearsome authority to Mortimer.”
Richard Fairman, Financial Times

“Peter Hoare is in clarion voice as the two-timing Mortimer.”
Rupert Christiansen, The Telegraph
