Four Hazard Chase artists are at Lammermuir Festival this week to perform in a selection of concerts.

This weekend, Vox Luminis are in Musselburgh at Our Lady of Loretto on 14th September for the first of their two appearances at the festival, featuring a programme of celebrated Renaissance works including Palestrina’s Super flumina Babylonis and Missa Papae Marcelli, and concluding with Victoria’s Missa pro Defunctis (Requiem). Their second appearance takes place on 16th September at St. Mary’s Church, Haddington where they are performing a programme dedicated to the Virgin Mary, including works by Lotti, Monteverdi, Della Ciaia and Scarlatti.

Conductor Matthew Halls makes his concert debut with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducting the World Premiere of Lammermuir composer in residence Stuart MacRae’s Prometheus Symphony, a mini-opera commissioned jointly by the Festival and BBC Radio 3. The programme also features Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5 and takes place on 19th September at St. Mary’s Church, Haddington.

Sinéad Campbell-Wallace sings the role of Silvia in Scottish Opera’s concert performances of Mascagni’s’ ZANETTO, forming part of the Scottish Opera Double-Bill at St Mary’s Parish Church, Haddington on Friday 20th September alongside Wolf-Ferrari’s SUSANNA’S SECRET.  David Parry conducts the Orchestra of Scottish Opera.

On the final day of the Festival, violinist Viviane Hagner joins pianist Steven Osborne and cellist Philip Higham in a chamber concert performing Ravel’s Piano Trio in A minor followed by Messiaen’s valedictory Quartet for the End of Time, for which they are joined by clarinettist Jean Johnson. The concert takes place on 22nd September at Dirleton Kirk in East Lothian.
