Last night in Glasgow, Alpesh Chauhan opened the 2019/20 season of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra stepping in at short notice for the orchestra’s Chief Conductor Thomas Dausgaard.

The concert included performances of Chaya Czernowin’s “Once I blinked nothing was the same” and Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, a work which Alpesh has previously conducted in Antwerp with the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra.

Joining Alpesh and the orchestra for Bruch’s famous Violin Concerto was Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud who returns to the SSO after last season’s performance of Carl Nielsen’s Violin Concerto.

The performance was broadcast live on Radio 3 and livestreamed on YouTube. To watch the video click here or to listen click here

Repeats of the concert take place at Aberdeen Music Hall on Friday, where the second half features Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, and at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on Sunday.
