In November, The Tallis Scholars released a new recording of Josquin’s Missa Mater Patris and Bauldeweyn’s Missa Da pacem on Gimell Records. This is the penultimate release in the group’s project to record all of Josquin’s masses before the composer’s 500th Anniversary in 2021.
Through their recordings and concert performances, The Tallis Scholars have established themselves as the leading exponents of Renaissance sacred music throughout the world.
The new recording has been met with critical acclaim:
“…listening to The Tallis Scholars’ version is an electrifying, visceral experience.” – Graham Rickson, The Arts Desk
“Glorious music superbly performed and recorded.” – Andrew McGregor, BBC Radio 3
“This is glorious stuff indeed.” – Edward Breen, Gramophone, Editor’s Choice
“precision, clarity and conviction” – Kate Bolton-Porciatti, BBC Music Magazine, 5* performance, 5* recording
“persuasive singing, beautifully recorded” – Nicholas Kenyon, The Guardian / Observer
“this superlative disc … everything about it is the best” – Richard Turbet, Early Music Review
The album is available on CD, to download from iTunes in their “Mastered for iTunes” format, and to download in a variety of high resolution formats from the Hyperion Records and Qobuz websites. It is also available on Apple Music, Spotify and a selection of other streaming services.
