This weekend conductor Karl-Heinz Steffens celebrates the reopening of the Prague State Opera following its recent reconstruction. Conducting his first performances at the opera house since being appointed Music Director, Steffens opens the house with a gala concert commencing with Wagner’s Overture Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, the first opera to be performed at the theatre in 1888. The concert also includes works by composers such as Mozart, Janáček, Strauss and Beethoven and features soloists Lise Davidsen, Pavel Černoch, Eva Urbanová and Kateřina Kněžíková amongst others.

The following week the opera house opens its doors on 9th January for the premiere of Fidelio, also conducted by Steffens, with further performances through the month.
