Conductor Masato Suzuki has today been awarded the Hideo Saito Memorial Fund Award presented annually to young conductors and cellists chosen for their potential to make a major contribution towards the world of music-making.
The award was first established in 2002 by the Sony Music Foundation in memory of the late cellist, composer and educator Hideo Saito. Each year, the Foundation’s committee (which includes Seiji Ozawa and Jun-ichi Hirokami) grant a conductor and/or cellist to receive this award, with Suzuki and cellist Haruma Sato being the 2019 recipients.
