news_2011_04_01Bach Collegium Japan and their director Masaaki Suzuki, have been honoured with a BBC Music Magazine Award for their recording of J.S. Bach Motets on the BIS label.

The awards were announced at a ceremony at King’s Place. In his acceptance speech Masaaki Suzuki thanked BBC Music Magazine for the award and described the motets as some of his favourite music that “really speaks to my heart” particularly after the recent tragic events in Japan. The award, in the choral category, follows the 2010 Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.

The ensemble also had further success with the disc last year, winning the Diapason d’Or de l’Année for 2010, with French radio channel France Musique describing it as the best disc of choral music of 2010.
