news_2011_06_02Emma Bell will sing the title role and Anne-Marie Owens takes on the role of Donna in the world première of Judith Weir’s Miss Fortune (Achterbahn) at the Bregenz Festival, opening on 21st July.  The production will be directed by Shi-Zeng Chen, with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Paul Daniel.  The cast further includes Kathryn Harries, Jacques Imbraillo, Alan Ewing and Andrew Watts.

This new opera was inspired by and based on an Italian folk tale Sfortuna. It tells of a young woman whose wealthy family suddenly meets hard times. She decides to make her own way in the world, trying to exist by working in gruelling occupations. Each time her luck seems to turn for the better, she is thrown by another misfortune.  This production will be repeated at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2012.
