The Japanese conductor, organist and harpsichord player Masaaki Suzuki has received this year’s Musikfest-Preis Bremen, where he has been a frequent visitor in recent years with his ensemble Bach Collegium Japan.  The award, generously endowed by the Commerzbank-Stiftung, has been given annually since 1998 to internationally recognised artists, who have also particularly enriched the Festival’s programme.   With his acceptance of the prize, Suzuki joins the company of other distinguished laureates such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Jessye Norman, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marc Minkowski and Anne Sofie von Otter amongst others.
