Hazard Chase is delighted to announce that the Brodsky Quartet have been signed as exclusive artists by Chandos Records. Their first release on the label, Petits Fours, is a compliation of encore pieces that have been arranged by the Quartet as part of their 40th Anniversary celebrations, which will take place next year. Jacky Thomas, cello, who started the quartet at just 11 years old, comments: “We feel excited privileged and challenged to be entering into our new recording contract with such an esteemed company as Chandos, and can’t imagine a better 40th birthday present”.
Throughout 2012, the Brodsky Quartet will be celebrating their anniversary with a number of very special concerts. They have devised a unique ‘lucky-dip’ project called the ‘Wheel of 4tunes’ that promises an exciting and insightful evening for audiences all around the world. The ‘Wheel of 4Tunes’ will spin and come to a stop on one of a selection of forty quartets from across its extensive repertoire, which the ensemble will perform; this will be repeated until a programme of ‘4tunes’ has been completed. Interspersed with informal background information and chat, this concert will offer an intimate insight into the group’s history and identity.
Celebrations will continue throughout the 2012/13 season with the release of their second Chandos disc; an exploration of repertoire by Debussy, featuring Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, piano, Sioned Williams, harp, and Chris Laurence, double bass. In March 2012, the Quartet return to Wigmore Hall for a birthday concert, with a programme including the wonderful Debussy String Quartet.
