Having already completed a tour of Russia with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra earlier this year, Olli Mustonen will again be performing for Russian audiences, opening the St. Petersburg International Piano Festival on the 1st December with a recital at the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall featuring works by Bach, Shostakovich and Rachmaninov. Mustonen then has the privilege of headlining the marathon concert on the 4th December, with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra, in renditions of his close friend and colleague Rodion Shchedrin’s Piano Concerto No. 6 and Bartok’s Piano Concerto No. 3.

This comes on top of an already successful year in Russia with a recital in St. Petersburg in April, as well as the honour of closing out the Moscow Easter Festival performing Bartok Piano Concerto No. 1 in May, again with Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra in what has become a special artistic collaboration during the course of 2011.
