Conductor, Martin Yates, has recorded over 30 discs for the Dutton Epoch label to date. One of his most recent, and eagerly anticipated, releases is Moeran’s Sketches for Symphony no.2, recorded with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in 2011. We are delighted to be able to announce that this disc has been chosen out of 136 recordings, from 63 different labels, as Musicweb International’s CD of the year.
‘This is deeply enjoyable and loveable music here astoundingly realised with evident integrity, well performed and convincingly recorded.’ – Musicweb International.
Yates is a wonderful proponent of British Twentieth Century repertoire and is also an extremely talented composer. He is fast becoming known for his masterly score completion techniques of unfinished works, such as Sketches for Symphony no.2, which he personally completed and realised. The work received its world premiere at the English Music Festival in June 2012, with Yates conducting, to great critical acclaim. Graham Parlett of BMS News comments “Yates develops the material skilfully and to exciting effect… Yates has produced an uplifting and undeniably effective movement… Many congratulations to Martin Yates and the Dutton team.”
Two new discs recently released by Dutton and Yates are Blumenfeld and Catoire Symphonies, and a selection of orchestral works by Alan Bush, both of which were recorded with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
