Multi-faceted Olli Mustonen this evening conducts the Tampere Philharmonic in the world premiere of his Symphony No. 1, featuring baritone soloist Juha Kotilainen. The symphony re-tells the Finnish myth of Tuuri using the text from a poem by national poet Eino Leino, a contemporary and a good friend of Sibelius, and in fact a very distant relative of Mustonen himself.

The symphony then has its Russian premiere in Moscow on 6th April with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra alongside a programme of  Sibelius and Shchedrin, once again under the baton of Mustonen.
