This year, world renowned classical guitarist Julian Bream received recognition for his talent and musical work spanning over 60 years. In September 2013 Julian was the winner of the Gramophone Lifetime Achievement Award. He accepted the award in person during the ceremony at LSO St Luke’s and gave a speech expressing his joy at being honoured with such an award.
Back in May this year, Julian was added to the Gramophone Hall of Fame celebrating his influential and inspiring performances across the globe.
To celebrate Julian’s 80th birthday, Sony released a set of 2 CD’s of Julian’s recordings throughout his incredible 66 year career, a shining tribute to a man whose talents have shaped the history of classical guitar performance. Sony also released a box set of The Complete RCA Album Collection called Classical Guitar Anthology including forty CD’s of 300 tracks covering almost the entire history of the lute and guitar, along with two DVD’s showing 3 hours of previously unreleased footage including a 1982 Omnibus feature with Bream playing and taking about Sir William Walton.
Recently, Julian’s Masterclass series from 1978, filmed at his home in Wiltshire, was added to the BBC Four Modern Classical Music Collection meaning that the programmes will be available permanently, for free, to people in the UK.
