Wednesday 22nd May 2014 saw Clark Rundell conduct the premiere performance of Orlando Gough’s Voices & Votes at the Bergen International Festival. A joint production between the festival and the Bergen National Opera, Rundell returns to the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra for this ‘spectacular, colourful and thought-provoking performance about a journey towards liberation. Taking the bicentennial of the Norwegian Constitution, and battles for freedom in India, South Africa and Palestine as a starting-point, Voices & Votes links different musical expressions with excerpts from constitutions, declarations of independence, protest songs, folk songs and poetry of resistance.’

Directed by Olivia Fuchs, this short opera features a huge cast comprising singers from Fargespill, the Edvard Grieg Choir, Alesund Chamber Chorus, and music students from the Bergen Private High School – as well as an array of soloists, musicians and actors.

The second performance takes place this evening (Thursday 22nd May 2014) and more information can be found here.
