Paula Murrihy makes her Los Angeles Opera Debut in Dido & Aeneas
Barrie Kosky’s production of Dido & Aeneas opens at Los Angeles Opera on Saturday, with Paula Murrihy starring in the title role. Paula won critical acclaim when the production premiered at Oper Frankfurt in 2010 and at the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2013.
“It is one of the most poignant moments in operatic history. Dido’s Lament … Paula Murrihy makes it a breakthtaking moment of suspense.” – Frank Pommer, Die Rheinpfalz
“Paula Murrihy is an incredibly moving Dido … commanding, enthusiastic, very present.” Egbert Tholl, Süddeutsche Zeitung
“her acting is magnetic and her lament is full of pathos” – Kate Molleson, Guardian
As in Frankfurt, Los Angeles Opera pairs Dido & Aeneas with Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle to form a riveting double-bill that explores the fine line between devotion and obsession. Further information can be found on the Los Angeles Opera website.
The cast includes Liam Bonner as Aeneas and Kateryna Kasper as Belinda with Steven Sloane conducting. Dido / Bluebeard opens on Saturday 25 October, with further performances on 2, 6, 9, 12, 15 November.
Also this season Paula will sing Cesti’s Orontea and Octavian in a new production of Der Rosenkavalier at Oper Frankfurt, and Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the OAE for concerts in the UK, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Paris.
