The celebrated Canadian chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy have named London-based violinist and director Anthony Marwood as their Principal Artistic Partner. This is the orchestra’s first appointment since Bernard Labadie founded it in 1984. The new partnership begins in the autumn of 2015 and will continue through to the end of the 2017/18 season. The announcement coincides with a week of concerts featuring Anthony as soloist in Mozart’s violin concerti nos 2 and 3.
Anthony has collaborated with the orchestra on several occasions since 2011. As stated in the management’s press release, he has “developed a true artistic partnership with Les Violons du Roy. He enjoys the full support of the orchestra musicians, among whom he is greatly admired and recognized as an extraordinarily inspiring artist.”
Les Violons du Roy are considered Canada’s finest chamber orchestra and have been in residence at the Palais Montcalm in Quebec City since 2007. They are well known throughout the United States where they tour extensively, and internationally through their many award-winning recordings. The orchestra’s most recent European tour (with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kozena) took place in January 2014 and included performances at the London Barbican Centre, Berlin Philharmonie, Brussels Palais des Beaux Arts and Paris Theatre de Champs-Elysees).
