They have made a series of acclaimed recordings of English song for Linn and Chandos records featuring the composers Vaughan Williams, Gurney, Finzi, Lennox Berkeley and Benjamin Britten. They have also recorded Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin, (Editor’s Choice in Gramophone) Schwanengesang with Beethoven’s An die Ferne Geliebte, Winterreise (BBC Music Magazine 2011 Christmas disc of the month), and recently released the Schumann Song Cycles.

Season 2017-18 Anna and James perform the third and final instalment of their recital series ‘Schumann and the English Romantics’ at the Wigmore Hall. With each recital including a new commission by British composers alongside Schumann song cycles, the final recital programme includes a world premiere by Jonathan Dove. Later in the season Anna and James will tour throughout Scotland, perform Die Schöne Müllerin at Banstead Arts Festival, plus give recitals as part of the Leicester International Festival, Stapleford Granary and at the Howard Assembly Rooms, Opera North.

This season Anna will also accompany mezzo-soprano Anna Stéphany in a concert themed ‘Tchaikovsky and his World’ at Saffron Hall. She will perform at Winchester College as part of the Visiting Artists Series, at Wigmore Hall accompanying Lucy Crowe, at Ripon Cathedral as a member of the Marlborough Piano Quartet, at LSO St Luke’s with Tom Norris, for an Opera Gala at Blackheath Halls and will join Leslie Garrett in Truro, Swansea and Clapham.

‘Gilchrist and Tilbrook caught the ambience exactly, giving us a rippling, lyrical paean to nature in ‘Let beauty awake’, a quiet, mystical wonder at the vastness of the sky in ‘The infinite shining heavens’, the jaunty optimism of a travelling pedlar seeing the open road stretching before him in ‘The roadside fire’, and a magnificently contrasting ‘Youth and love’, from mellow mezza voce and the gentlest accompaniment for ‘deep in the gardens golden pavilions hide’ to the loudest, most jubilant Heldentenor note of the evening on ‘Cries but a wayside word to her’.’
