Dawid Kimberg

Dawid Kimberg is a Hazard Chase Young Associate Artist.

Dawid was born in Johannesburg and attended the Drakensberg Boys' Choir School.  He moved to the UK in 2001 and studied at the Royal College of Music with Ryland Davies.

His many oratorio performances in the UK and South Africa include the St John Passion, St Matthew Passion, Mass in B minor, Magnificat and various Cantatas by Bach, Messiah, Samson and Dixit Dominus by Handel, Mass in C major and Requiem by Mozart, Haydn's Nelson Mass and Creation, Fauré's Requiem, Carmina Burana by Orff, Puccini's Messe di Gloria, Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs, Tippett's A Child of our Time, Dvorak's Stabat Mater and the complete choral works of Duruflé (available on the Lammas label), many of these performances taking place in major concert venues like St. John Smith's Square, St. Martin in the Fields, Cadogan Hall and Symphony Hall, Birmingham.  Further engagements include St Matthew Passion at Bath Abbey, St John Passion and Easter Oratorio in Norway, Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall (Sir David Willcocks), Mass in B Minor at Wells Cathedral for Bristol Bach Choir and regular appearances with the London Mozart Players. Dawid also attended the Aix-en-Provence Festival 2008 Academy.

Operatic roles include Count in Le Nozze di Figaro and Ottone in L’incoronazione di Poppea for the Benjamin Britten Opera School, Duke in Romeo & Juliette by Gounod for British Youth Opera, Bruno in Parthenogenesis by James MacMillan performed in Canterbury Cathedral and Masetto in Don Giovanni at the Purcell Room.

In recitals he has performed songs by Schubert, including performances of Die Schöne Müllerin in Aberdeen and London. In addition he has performed works by Schumann, Wolf, Brahms, Beethoven, Mahler, Finzi, Britten, Vaughan-Williams, Fauré and Duparc.  Whilst at the RCM Dawid took part in masterclasses with Graham Johnson, Mark Padmore, Sarah Walker, Richard van Allen, Michael Chance and Roger Vignoles.  He was the 2004 winner of the Great Elm Vocal Awards and the recipient of the Joaninha Award in 2007.

On graduating from the Benjamin Britten Opera School Dawid subsequently joined the National Opera Studio, where he completed his formal studies in 2008.  Recent engagements have included St Matthew Passion at Bath Abbey, St John Passion and Easter Oratorio in Norway, Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall (Sir David Willcocks), Mass in B Minor at Wells Cathedral for Bristol Bach Choir and regular appearances with the London Mozart Players. On graduating from the Benjamin Britten Opera School, Dawid joined the National Opera Studio, where he completed his formal studies in 2008.  Recent engagements include Moralès Carmen for Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Carmina Burana for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Creonte in Haydn’s Orfeo ed Euridice in Novosibirisk and Moscow.  Future engagements include Adonis Venus and Adonis for the Wilton’s Music Hall Trust, Mass in B Minor in Windsor, cover Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte for English National Opera and Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle in London.  Dawid will join the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden from September 2009.
