Ellie Laugharne

Ellie Laugharne is a Hazard Chase Young Associate Artist.

Ellie Laugharne studied on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She began her vocal training at the Birmingham Conservatoire having previously completed a music degree at Birmingham University.

She has since sung the title role in Stephen Oliver's Euridice (Peri orch. Oliver) for BYO, Edna Tobias and the Angel (Dove) at the Buxton Operatic Festival and Pamina Die Zauberflöte whilst at University. She has also performed a variety of roles in scenes at GSMD and with BYO including Sophie Werther, Sophie Der Rosenkavalier, Frasquita Carmen, Morgana Alcina, Nanetta Falstaff and Marzelline Fidelio.

Ellie won the 2011 Musicians' Benevolent Fund Maggie Teyte Prize and Miriam Licette Scholarship and performed a recital in the Crush Room at the Royal Opera House. She has also performed a number of concerts at the last two Ryedale Festivals (accompanied by Christopher Glynn).

Ellie's studies at GSMD were generously supported by the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, the Music Students’ Hostel Trust, the John Wates Charitable Trust and Serena Fenwick. Recent engagements have included Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro for BYO, Anna Reich in Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor and Tytania in A Midsummer Night's Dream both for GSMD, a pre-LSO recital at the Barbican Hall and a concert with pianist John Reid at King's Place in London.

Future plans include First Bridesmaid in Le nozze di Figaro for Glyndebourne Festival Opera and at the 2012 BBC Proms, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro for the Glyndebourne Tour, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance for Scottish Opera and Sandrina in La Finta Giardiniera for the Buxton Festival.

She is one of Glyndebourne’s Jerwood Young Artists for the 2012 Festival.
