Emilie Renard is a Hazard Chase Young Associate Artist
British/French Mezzo-Soprano Emilie Renard studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama and is in her final year of the Benjamin Britten International Opera School of the Royal College of Music, studying with Janis Kelly.
Emilie was awarded the Lies Askonas Prize (2012) and was the winner of the Audience Prize at the 2011 London Handel Festival Singing Competition, the Royal College of Music English Song, Lieder and Concerto prizes, and the RSAMD French Song prize; in 2010 she won 1er Prix Femme (Opéra) and 1er Prix Mélodie Française at the 22ème Concours International de Chant de Marmande, France, and was a member of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme where she performed with Roger Vignoles.
Emilie’s operatic roles at the RCM include Despina Cosi Fan Tutte, title role Djamileh, Eurilla Il Pastor Fido, Hàta The Bartered Bride, and Venus Orpheus in the Underworld. Other recent engagements include Sesto La Clemenza di Tito (Opus Opera), Hansel Hansel and Gretel (London Youth Opera), Dido Dido and Aeneas (Haddo House), and Cis Albert Herring at the Landestheater, Salzburg.
In concert, Emilie has appeared in Elgar The Kingdom with the Abingdon & District Musical Society, Handel’s Theodora with Ian Assersohn and Concordia Singers, Haydn’s Theresienmesse in Portsmouth, Ravel’s Shéhérazade with Martin André at the RCMSO, Mozart Requiem in St Martin-in-the-Fields, and Frauenliebe und Leben in the Elgar Rooms, Royal Albert Hall.
Emilie is a recipient of an Independent Opera Vocal Scholarship at the Royal College of Music; she is also this year's Ackroyd Scholar at the RCM. In addition, her studies in 2011-12 are generously supported by a Sybil Tutton Award administered by the Musicians Benevolent Fund; the Josephine Baker Trust; the Nicholas Boas Charitable Trust; and a Douglas Craig Award from the Sussex Opera and Ballet Society.
Emilie recently performed Pulcheria Riccardo Primo (Royal College of Music/ London Handel Festival), St Matthew Passion and a recital for the London Handel Festival. Future engagements include Cherubino Le Nozze di Figaro at the RCM and Little Arab/ 1st Gentleman/ Errand boy in Martinú’s Julietta for English National Opera. Emilie will be a member of Le Jardin des Voix 2013 with William Christie. Emilie Renard is a Hazard Chase Young Associate Artist.
