Patricia Orr

Born in Scotland, Patricia graduated from Glasgow University with a degree in Law and French awarded with first class honours, the McCormack prize as the most distinguished graduate of the academic year and a distinction in French language.  Subsequently, she trained at the Royal College of Music and the National Opera Studio and continues to study with Anne Mason.  She was the 2006 winner of the Alfred Alexander Prize, a finalist in the Royal Overseas League Competition in 2006 and a finalist in the Bruce Millar Competition in 2008.  She has been supported by an Independent Opera Voice Fellowship, a Donald Dewar Arts Award, the Newby Trust, the McGlashan Trust, a Sir Richard Stapley award and a Madeline Finden award.

Operatic roles include Laura in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta and Varvara Kat’a Kabanova for Opera Holland Park, the Sorceress in Purcell Dido and Aeneas, Orimeno in Cavalli Erismena and 2nd Lady Die Zauberflöte for English Touring Opera and Hippolyta A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Garsington Opera.  For the RCM, she has sung Enfant L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, Bianca The Rape of Lucretia and Prince Orlovsky Die Fledermaus.  She also covered the role of Concepcion in Ravel’s L’Heure Espagnole for the RCM.  She sung the title role in Handel Tolomeo in association with the London Handel Society as well as Yolande in Maconchy’s The Sofa and covered the role of Julia in The Departed with Independent Opera at Sadler’s Wells.  Patricia has covered the roles of Tisbe Cenerentola and Flora La Traviata for Scottish Opera Tour and covered the role of Rosina Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Maddalena Rigoletto for English National Opera.

In concert, Patricia has worked with the London Mozart Players, the English Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Edinburgh Quartet in venues such as St John’s Smith Square, the Cadogan Hall, St Martin in the Fields and the Snape Maltings Concert Hall.  Patricia recently recorded the role of Brangwain The Queen of Cornwall by Rutland Boughton, with the New London Orchestra (due for release in 2011).

Engagements in 2010/2011 include Dryad Ariadne auf Naxos for WNO, The Dream of Gerontius with the Bach Choir and Beppe in L'Amico Fritz for Opera Holland Park.
