City of London Sinfonia appointments announced
Hazard Chase is delighted to announce that Michael Collins has been appointed as Principal Conductor of the City of London Sinfonia, with effect from September 2010. Michael Collins has developed his conducting career over the past decade with many of the world’s leading orchestras and is excited to be working again with the orchestra that helped launch his career as one of the world's leading clarinettists. He says of the announcement “I’m genuinely thrilled and excited by my appointment with the City of London Sinfonia. The CLS, or Richard Hickox Orchestra as it was then known, gave me my first professional engagement, after I won the woodwind prize in the BBC Young Musician of the Year final in 1978. I’ve worked with the orchestra as soloist many, many times since”.
City of London Sinfonia have also announced today that Stephen Layton will be joining them as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. Michael Collins commented “I look forward to being able to complement Stephen’s plans for the orchestra and develop my thoughts for repertoire and programming. As well as playing clarinet concertos in programmes I conduct, there will be times when I leave my instrument at home and invite people from my strong list of musical friends to join us in making music together.”
