Bayreuth Bursary success for Helena Dix

Helena Dix was declared the winner of the Wagner Society Annual Bayreuth Bursary Competition on Saturday 3rd December.  For her repertoire, Helena selected to sing Eva's Selig wie die Sonne DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG and Sieglinde's Der Männer Sippe DIE WALKÜRE.  The distinguished panel: Dame Anne Evans, James Rutherford and David Syrus adjourned to make their decision after the seven finalists had performed their chosen repertoire and returned 30 minutes later with a unanimous decision.  The runner up was Miriam Sharrad (contralto).  Helena scored a double success as she was also selected as the recipient of the Audience Prize.

The finalists line up included Justine Viani (soprano), Thomas Humphreys (baritone), Helena Dix (soprano), Simon Lobelson (baritone), Ione Cumming (soprano), Charne Rochford (tenor) and  Miriam Sharrad (contralto).
