Hazard Chase at the BBC Proms
The 2009 BBC Proms, whose season was announced last night, prominently features several Hazard Chase artists. Katia and Marielle Labèque enjoy a hat trick of high profile appearances over the summer, from the First Night of the Proms, for which they join the BBC Symphony and Jiri Belohlavek to perform the Poulenc Double Piano Concerto, to the UK premiere of Louis Andriessen's The Hague Hacking with the Philharmonia and Esa-Pekka Salonen, and a matinee concert with the Britten Sinfonia and Ludovic Morlot.
Danjulo Ishizaka and Jennifer Pike will both be heard as part of the Proms’ celebration of the BBC’s New Generation Artist Scheme at Cadogan Hall during the last weekend of August, when Ishizaka performs works by Bach, Kodaly and Villa Lobos and Pike joins pianist Tom Poster for a performance of the Elgar Violin Sonata. Earlier that month, Jennifer Pike will also perform at the Proms with the BBC Philharmonic as part of a free, daytime concert in which she will play Holst Song of the Night and Saint-Saens Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso.
Isabelle Faust makes a long awaited Prom debut when she joins the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Principal Conductor Thierry Fischer to perform the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.
Hazard Chase singers are represented by James Gilchrist, who joins Douglas Boyd, the Manchester Camerata and the BBC Singers for a performance of the Nelson Mass in a late night Prom on July 20th, and Christopher Purves, who sings Harapha in Handel’s Samson with the English Concert on August 20th. Finally, at the Last Night of the Proms Martin Yates will be steering the massed crowds of Hyde Park in the prestigious London Proms in the Park.
