Hazard Chase Artists at the BBC Proms 2010

The BBC Proms open this weekend and throughout the summer there are many opportunities to hear Hazard Chase artists at a wide variety of performances:

Prom 2: Saturday 17 July
An exciting opportunity to see Christopher Purves’ critically acclaimed performance of ‘Beckmesser’ in Welsh National Opera’s production of Die Meistersinger.

Prom 5: Tuesday 20 July
Viviane Hagner returns to the Proms, this time to perform the perennially popular Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with regular partners the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne led by their Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov.

Proms 10 & 11: Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 July
Grant Llewellyn leads the BBC National Orchestra Wales and London Philharmonic Choir in two family-friendly Doctor Who Proms, introduced by none other than Matt Smith (the Doctor) and Karen Gillan (the Doctor’s companion, Amy Pond).  He conducts classical favourites based on the themes of time, space and travel, including ‘Mars’ from Holst’s The Planets and John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine.

Proms Composer Portrait and Prom 42: Tuesday 17 August
Huw Watkins features strongly at the world premiere of his Violin Concerto, performed by violinist Alina Ibragimova, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Edward Gardner. The focus of a rare Proms Composer Focus, the composer gives an early evening interview in conversation with Andrew McGregor, discussing his new concerto and a range of his chamber repertoire, including Sad Steps, another Proms commission dating from 2008.

Proms Saturday Matinee 3: Saturday 21 August
I Fagiolini return to the Proms, this time with the Britten Sinfonia in a programme which juxtaposes early 17th century originals with the 21st century works that they inspired. I Fagiolini perform pieces including Dowland Flow my Tears, Gesualdo Tenebrae Responsories and the powerful Messenger scene from Monteverdi L‘Orfeo.

I Fagiolini’s appearance at the Proms is anticipated by their appearance in a special Proms preview edition of Performance on Three on BBC Radio 3, on Thursday 15 July, when they will perform a selection of early and contemporary repertoire, ranging from Gesualdo and Dowland to Brett Dean and Britten.

Prom 61: Tuesday 31 August
One of Hazard Chase’s most recent signings, William Dazeley, sings the role of the Father in Glyndebourne’s Hansel und Gretel.

Prom 64: Thursday 2 September
Anna Stephany sings Pergolesi Stabat Mater in a late night Prom on September 2nd, with Christian Curnyn and the Early Opera Company.

Proms in the Park, Hyde Park: 11 September
Martin Yates conducts one of the starriest Proms in the Park to date, with guest appearances from legendary artists Kiri Te Kanawa and José Carreras.
