‘In Tune’ at ‘I Fagiolini’s Christmas Party’

I Fagiolini and Robert Hollingworth celebrate Christmas and Croce’s 400th anniversary with appearances on The Early Music Show, In Tune and a residency at Kings Place.

From 16-19 December James Gilchrist and Barokksolistene will be featured alongside I Fagiolini as part of ‘I Fagiolini’s Christmas Party’, at Kings Place. For tickets and more information please go to www.kingsplace.co.uk. A preview of the festivities can be heard when I Fagiolini appear on In Tune, BBC Radio 3 on Monday 14 December.

Christmas in Europe : I Fagiolini :  Wednesday 16 December at 19.30
A beautiful mix of Renaissance and 20th century Christmas music from around Europe: Byrd motets, a Swiss clocktower chime, seasonal monody by Hildegard of Bingen, a Poulenc wartime cantata, some Spanish fizz and an alternative to the 12 days of Christmas.

Winterreise : James Gilchrist and Anna Tilbrook : Thursday 17 December at 19.30
In Schubert's eternally popular song-cycle, Müller's poetry uses a winter journey to paint the increasingly desperate voyage of a man disappointed in love. James Gilchrist is one of England's most sought after tenors with a special affinity for this repertoire.

Alehouse : Barokksolistene : Friday 18 December at 19.30
In the 17th century, many Alehouses were turned into Musick-Houses where one might meet Henry Purcell and other composers presenting new works, or just duelling with local folk-musicians. Norwegian wizards of baroque and folk music revisit this repertoire with spectacular results!

Intimate Bach : I Fagiolini and Barokksolistene : Saturday 19 December at 19.30
Bach with one performer to a part is accepted as the way he would have performed much of his sacred music, but it's rare to hear it in the right acoustic. In the perfect intimacy of King's Place, hear the beautiful G minor Lutheran Mass and seasonal cantatas. Early booking advised.

I Fagiolini and Barokksolistene then travel to Oslo for two performances of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio on 22 December.
