Jennifer Koh nominated for Grammy Award
Jennifer Koh has been nominated for a Grammy Award for her recording String Poetic, a recital disc with pianist Reiko Uchida. The disc, subtitled "American works: a 21st century perspective", features works by Carl Ruggles and Lou Harrison alongside John Adams' incredibly successful Road Movies. The CD takes its title from Jennifer Higdon's five movement work String Poetic, written for Koh and Uchida. The duo premiered String Poetic during the 2006/7 season at prestigious venues such as the Kimmel Center Philadelphia, Herbst Theater San Francisco and in New York at the 92nd Street Y.
Jennifer Koh has become closely associated with Jennifer Higdon - String Poetic is the second work that Higdon has written for Koh, following their earlier collaboration on The Singing Rooms. The concerto, scored for solo violin, symphony orchestra and chorus, was commissioned and premiered by the Philadelphia and Minnesota orchestras, with Jennifer Koh, in the 2006/7 season.
The 51st Grammy Awards will be held on February 8th, 2009.
