Jennifer Koh joins Hazard Chase
We are delighted to announce that violinist Jennifer Koh has joined Hazard Chase for European management. Renowned for her commitment to and passion for contemporary repertoire, Koh is known in the United States as an artist of the highest calibre.
"...a risk-taking, high-octane player who grabs the listener by the ear and refuses to let go ... she supports her mesmerizing flights of fancy with a beguilingly silvery tone, fabulous technique and dead center intonation..." (The Strad)
Having gained international acclaim as the winner of the the top prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition, Koh has subsequently performed as guest soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, Moscow Radio Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. She has close associations with renowned composers such as John Adams, Jennifer Higdon, Kaija Saariaho and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Recent high profile performances of contemporary repertoire include the premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s concerto “The Singing Rooms” with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Christoph Eschenbach; the premiere of Higdon’s “String Poetic” for violin and piano at prestigious venues including the Kimmel Center, Philadelphia, Herbst Theater, San Francisco and in New York at the 92nd Street Y; a “Composer Portrait” devoted to Peter Lieberson as well as the world premieres of concertos by Laura Schwendinger and Charles Wuorinen, all at Columbia University’s prestigious Miller Theatre in New York City; performances of the Ligeti Violin Concerto (with a cadenza written expressly for her by John Zorn) with the Ensemble Contrechamps in Geneva and at the Holland Festival at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Tan Dun’s “Water Passion”, conducted by the composer at New York’s South Street Seaport as part of the River to River Festival; and Lou Harrison’s “Concerto in slendro,” with John Adams.
Koh is a most ardent advocate for contemporary repertoire, but alongside these high profile performances and premieres she performs the full breadth of the violin repertoire with orchestras of the highest calibre - for instance Beethoven with the National Symphony Orchestra, Tchaikovsky at the Colorado Music Festival, Martinu with the Czech Philharmonic and Bach with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. In the 2008/9 season, Koh will perform the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Houston Symphony; the Sibelius Concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra; and Jennifer Higdon's Singing Rooms with the Atlanta Symphony and the Minnesota Orchestra.
"When Jennifer Koh sets her bow to her violin, the performer falls silent and the composer begins to speak." (Columbus Dispatch)
