Michael Collins celebrates his 50th Birthday
Michael Collins celebrates his 50th Birthday on the 27 January 2012.
Ask a dedicated musician how he would like to spend his Birthday – the answer in this case is conducting and playing a feast of Mozart at the Wigmore Hall. On the 27 January 2012 Michael Collins performs an all Mozart programme – he will perform in Mozart’s ‘Gran Partita’, he will conduct the City of London Sinfonia in ‘Parto Parto’ and he will finish the concert with the show stopping Clarinet Concerto.
This concert brings together and celebrates the many elements of Michael’s diverse musical life – even as his conducting career blossoms his love of chamber music does not diminish.
This Birthday concert coincides with the release of a Weber Concerto disc on Chandos with the City of London Sinfonia with Michael playing and conducting. This dazzling programme, that combines virtuosity, daring, humour, and sheer beauty is Michael’s recording debut with the City of London Sinfonia of which he is the Principal Conductor. The rapport he has with the orchestra leaps out of the CD player as you listen to this wonderful disc.
