Orchid Classics looks ahead to 2010
2009 was an important year for Orchid Classics, with many exciting new partnerships beginning. The label relaunched in the autumn, with a new international distribution deal under Naxos/Select, and four new titles.
In August 2009, Orchid Classics was delighted to announce a new co-operation with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, enabling releases on RPO Records to be generally available in the UK and internationally for the first time, through Orchid's distribution arrangement.
New partnerships have been announced with Albion Media, the leading company for PR in the arts, with whom Orchid Classics will now be working on each new release; and with Pawlina Bednarczyk, formerly head of A&R for ASV/Sanctuary, who has become General Manager of the label. James Brown, Managing Director of Hazard Chase, was appointed Chairman of Orchid Classics in January 2010.
Orchid Classics’ artist roster brings some of the most important musicians of today together with the projects most important to them. Some of those due to appear on the label in 2010 include Joan Rodgers, Lawrence Power, the Brodsky Quartet and Guy Johnston. Another highlight is the Dusseldorf Symphony, the only orchestra with which Schumann was ever chief conductor and the city with which he is most associated, recording works by the composer for his anniversary year of 2010.
