Jennifer Pike joins BBC New Generation Artist Scheme
Jennifer Pike is one of eight artists to join the BBC's prestigious New Generation Artist scheme this month. The scheme, now in its tenth year, offers young artists opportunities to work with BBC orchestras, commission new repertoire, make broadcasts from significant venues such as Wigmore Hall and perform at some of the UK's most renowned festivals, such as the City of London Festival and Cheltenham International Festival. As part of its commitment to nurturing young talent, the BBC invites eight artists onto the scheme every autumn, for two years. Their recordings form a pivotal part of BBC Radio Three's broadcasting, from both live performances and studio recordings. Former artists on the scheme include Hazard Chase artists Danjulo Ishizaka and Emma Bell.
Jennifer joins the scheme having already performed with several of the BBC orchestras, including the BBC Symphony (with whom she performed the Sibelius concerto last autumn), the BBC Scottish Symphony and BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Initial plans upon joining the scheme include a studio recording of a recital programme that includes the Franck and Janacek violin sonatas.
In addition to her busy BBC schedule, at the start of November Jennifer will make her debut with the City of Birmingham Symphony, playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.
