Jennifer Pike nominated for South Bank Show Award
Violinist Jennifer Pike has been nominated by The Times newspaper for this year’s The South Bank Show/The Times Breakthrough award. The award, voted for by the newspaper’s readers, is the only award at the event that is judged by a public vote. The selection is made by The Times arts critics on the basis of Jennifer’s achievements during 2007, the year during which she turned 18, and the “significant impact” that she has made in the business during this year.
During 2007, Jennifer’s engagements have include debuts with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, playing the Sibelius concerto, and the BBC Scottish Symphony, an appearance at the Barbican’s Mostly Mozart Festival, an engagement with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a Wigmore Hall recital to mark her eighteenth birthday. Next year, she returns to the RPO to perform the Mendelssohn concerto and she will also work with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and tour with Manchester Camerata.
Voting opens on the 4th January 2008 and ends at midnight on 16th January 2008. To vote please visit the Times Online website.
The winner of the award will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on January 29th.
