Retrospect Ensemble joins Linn Records

Retrospect Ensemble has been signed by the innovative, award-winning company Linn Records. With future recording plans that include a vast range of repertoire, their first release - which has just become available - introduces a different aspect of the new group's identity, Retrospect Trio. This exciting new chamber group will form a significant part of Retrospect Ensemble's activities, building on the group's intrinsic versatility borne out by its diverse repertoire.

Retrospect Trio is an ensemble of four internationally renowned members - Sophie Gent and Matthew Truscott (violins), Jonathan Manson (viol) and Retrospect Ensemble's Artistic Director, Matthew Halls (harpsichord). These distinguished musicians bring their shared passion to focus on the rich and varied trio sonata repertoire of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. This debut recording is the first of a two disc series exploring the timeless beauty of Henry Purcell's sonatas, marking the 350th anniversary of the celebrated English composer's birth.

Linn Records is a renowned and respected recording company, known particularly for its successful advances into the download market. The label boasts a prestigious list of well respected artists and collaborators, including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Artur Pizarro, The Palladian Ensemble and James Gilchrist. Linn Records’ intention is to produce two or three releases each year with Retrospect Ensemble. Later this year, the group will undertake a large-scale recording of a major choral and orchestral work.

Caroline Dooley, Business Director of Linn Records, commented: “We are very much looking forward to working with an ensemble of such high calibre as Retrospect Ensemble. The partnership will allow two parties known for their innovative and fresh approach to music to collaborate on recordings of the highest quality, both in artistic and technical terms.”
